Andrew Collins is the Assistant Principal of Our Lady of Good Counsel High School, a private Catholic school, in Olney, Maryland.

“On Friday, before we left, we had three different training rooms, for teachers who were either fairly comfortable, fairly advanced with Google classroom and other iPad devices and apps, other people were kind of a medium-level of understanding, and then we had the beginners. . . Teachers are the worst students, by far.”

Interview highlights:

“On Friday, before we left, we had three different training rooms, for teachers who were either fairly comfortable, fairly advanced with Google classroom and other iPad devices and apps, other people were kind of a medium-level of understanding, and then we had the beginners. . . Teachers are the worst students, by far. That was a big part of it, getting people up to speed. But then we got up to speed, Monday the 16th, the first day of distance learning. We had to.”

“We pride ourselves on building relationships with our students. A lot of our teachers on Zoom calls will end up just hanging out with their kids. One of my best students is an international student, and he’s just been having a lot of trouble focusing, and is away from his family . . . so we just hang out for like 40 minutes a day. . . That kind of stuff is important, too.”
